Tom Greenall

Born to outdoor instructor parents in the mountains of North Wales, Tom fell in love with the mountains from birth. Over the last 40 or so years Tom has skied everything from the plastic artificial slopes of Wales, to the French, Italian, Austrian and Swiss Alps, Rocky Mountains and the Southern alps. He has competed at an international level several times for his home country Wales, and is now training as an International mountain leader.

If mountains are his first love, engineering is a close second; designing his first snowboard at 13 after seeing one in a skiing movie! He then went on to study Electronic and Electrical engineering at University of Salford in Manchester, England. His experience working in ski resorts the world over has given him a global view of where the ski industry is moving to, the trends, the fads and where we are doing unnecessary damage to the beautiful landscape we all treasure.

In 2009 Idris Skis was born with the idea to make beautiful Environmentally friendly skis, and that same year Tom created the first true bio reinforced ski – hemp instead of fiberglass – tested on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi. This beautiful and original ski won the ISPO “Environmental Excellence” a “Off Piste Ski Award” at ISPO 2013.
