Born as Apache Coomba, and soon improved as Coomback, these skis are a testament to the legendary years of high mountain guiding and extreme skiing of Doug Coombs, one of the best ski mountaineer and steep skier ever. He spent his last two years designing and testing a tool of choice for exploring all the mountain, with a functional front rocker, a secure grippy tail and light enough to be easily used with skins for >1000 meters.

Unfortunately he did not see its creature in production as he left this world in 2006 while skiing a couloir in La Grave. He was trying to rescue his friend Chad VanderHam, who had fallen himself.
What does K2 says.
Balanced flex pattern and generous waists create excellent flotation and easy handling in difficult conditions.
All-terrain rocker features elevated tips that float through powder snow with ease; traditional camber under foot ensures good power and edge hold on firm snow.
Fir/aspen wood cores produce a natural flex, allowing the skis to achieve full contact with the snow throughout the turn.
Triaxial braiding wraps an interlocking fiberglass weave around the wood cores; results in torsional stiffness, responsive turning and sensitivity.
Cap construction keeps overall weight light and durability high.
Progressive sidecut produces different curve shapes along different parts of the skis—more aggressive in the tips, less aggressive in the tails.
The progressive sidecut results in confident, quick turn initiation in hard snow and easy release in crud and powder.
Powder tips place the widest point of the skis further back than on other K2 skis, making the skis more stable and predictable in variable snow conditions.
A percentage of all K2 Coomback ski sales will be donated to the Coombs family.
